Biden at Morehouse: No Apology for Democrat Support of Slavery

With all the attention focused on President Joe Biden’s recent speech at Morehouse College, an historically black college and university (HBCU), it is amazing that Biden completely ignored the need for Morehouse in the first place. RELATED: The Spectacle Ep. 110: Joe Biden Is Racist. His Commencement Speech at Morehouse Proved It. Morehouse was founded in 1867. Why is that date significant? The opening of the college comes after barely two years since the passage by Congress and ratification by the states of the 13th Amendment to the United States Constitution — which abolished slavery. A mere 23 percent of Democrats in Congress voted to abolish slavery, with 0 percent voting for the 14th Amendment, which gave citizenship to the freed slaves, and another 0 percent of Democrats supporting the 15th Amendment, which gave blacks the right to vote. All three amendments passed because of strong GOP support. There was not a peep about any of this from Biden, of course. Slavery, of course, was what provided the need for Morehouse in the first place. Nor was there a word from Biden about just which political party had staunchly supported slavery in the first place. As noted long ago in this space, Biden’s Democrat Party is six times on the record in its platforms supporting slavery. Republicans were formed in opposition to slavery. And on and on goes the dismal record of Joe Biden’s Democrat Party — which he now leads — in, among many similar racial appeals, such as supporting the Ku Klux Klan and using it, per historians, as the “military force serving the interests of the Democratic Party” and the “terrorist arm of the Democratic Party.” When called upon to condemn the Klan at a party national convention, the party rejected the idea. Biden’s party set up the “Jim Crow” segregation laws of the 19th and 20th centuries. Now it has moved from support for segregation to supporting what can easily be called today’s “son of segregation” — identity politics. The long and short is that Joe Biden — President Joe Biden — leads America’s Party of Race. And presented by Morehouse College with the opportunity to issue an apology for all of this outright racism from his party, party leader and President Joe Biden fell silent. Shocking. Not. Anthony Esolen Exposes Modern Liberal Fallacies in The Lies of Our Time

The Lies of Our Time By Anthony Esolen (Sophia Institute Press, 224 pages, $19) Catholic scholar Anthony Esolen refutes the lie that there is no God and disproves seven other popular falsehoods widely disseminated by today’s progressive ideology in his latest book, The Lies of Our Time.  The God whom we meet in Genesis, Esolen posits, has several unique characteristics: He has no beginning, no end, and, by definition, no progenitors. He is associated neither with any theogony nor with the establishment of a city or empire, and he lacks any connection to the natural world. As Esolen writes: He is not a sun god, because He made the sun. He is not a corn god, because He made the earth and every living thing in it. Everywhere you go in the world, wherever you investigate the myths of mankind, you will find a theogony, entangled with cities and the vines that give the people their food, smudged with soil and soaked in blood. But God is, and that is all. Propagating the notion that God does not exist and that the practice of organized Judeo-Christian religion is the stuff of mythology endangers society, Esolen argues, because those who eschew God and the Judeo-Christian tradition must still seek guidance and redemption elsewhere, despite their protestations to the contrary — and they often do so through political structures. The state thus becomes the god to whom they metaphorically bow their heads while unwittingly sacrificing their liberties. Esolen writes in a lyrically beautiful manner, peppering his pages with biblical and literary references. He buttresses his argument with an analysis of the Ten Commandments in which he systematically illustrates society’s present-day defiance of them. For example, the Fourth Commandment, “Honor the father and mother,” has been trivialized, Esolen argues, through the breakdown of the traditional familial relationships of husband and wife and parent and child. It’s also been damaged by the disappearance of regular multigenerational family activities in which children would spend time with their parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.  Sunday or Saturday, depending on one’s faith, used to be used to be the time when families would gather not only to worship God but also to enjoy a communal meal, walk, or sporting event. Furthermore, factories, stores, and offices would close for the Lord’s Day. Now, stores are open seven days a week. Parents are constantly working, and children are either attending scheduled playdates or playing electronic games. Even if families are gathered for a group activity, they are not fully engaged. Everyone is on their cell phones or iPads. Esolen is concerned that if children do not fully bond with their parents during their childhood, they will not be as devoted to them fifty years later when the roles are reversed, and the children become the caregivers.  He also reiterates the central argument of his 2022 book No Apologies: Why Civilization Depends on the Strength of Men: that society’s, and the family’s, survival is contingent upon the participation of husbands and fathers who are both intellectually and physically powerful. Society needs those men to step up to protect “the million children snuffed out by abortion in the United States each year,” as Esolen writes, to fight back against a society that lives in violation of the Fifth Commandment, “Thou shalt not kill.” Esolen emphasizes that culture of death by referencing the rise in deaths from violent crimes, and he strongly denounces the euthanasia advocates who “peddle death as a comfortable way out of your despair.”  Lastly, Esolen dissects the lie that “cultural progress is inevitable” by arguing that technological advances, cross-cultural pollination, and wealth have neither reduced suffering nor advanced moral virtue. Although society has benefited from some of the technical innovations of the last two hundred years — such as “the steam engine, the combustion engine, refrigeration, electric power, the automobile, the train, the airplane, the camera in all its many forms, radio, television and now the high-speed computer,” alongside the scientific research that has eradicated so many childhood diseases. However, he argues that the mere possession of transformational tools is insufficient and even dangerous in the wrong hands.  Anthony Esolen’s The Lies of Our Time demonstrates once again that its author is a marvelous, provocative writer who consistently stands up for traditional values in the face of an increasingly large and angry mob. He possesses an intimate understanding of not only the joy that a relationship with God brings but also the dangers of a world that seeks to replace Him with the golden calf du jour. Although Esolen understands the precarious composition of our contemporary landscape, he remains ever-hopeful of divine intervention. All is not lost. And The Lies of Our Time can serve as a dependable beacon to guide you through the wilderness we face. The Last Hope Against Biden Bucks?

by Jim Rickards, Daily Reckoning: For the past two years, I’ve been warning about the emergence of central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), or as I like to call the U.S. version, “Biden Bucks.” Can good old-fashioned American federalism stop them? We’ll consider that possibility today. If you’re a new reader who isn’t familiar with Biden […]

God Is Not Disappointed With You for Having Anxiety or Depression – Encouragement for Today – May 28, 2024

May 28, 2024 God Is Not Disappointed With You for Having Anxiety or DepressionTAYLOR JOY MURRAY  Lee en español "But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it." Mark 5:32 (NIV) Legs tucked up to my chest and hands wrapped around my knees, I willed myself to inhale. One. Two. Three. And then a long, shaky exhale. Sitting on the gray-tiled floor, I stared numbly at the sliver of light through the crack under the bathroom door. I was 18 and didn't yet have words for the air-sucking waves of anxiety that seemed to be swallowing me from the inside. That day, I felt alone in my struggle. But perhaps even more painful was how I pictured God looking down at me with disappointment. I imagine you've probably had your own version of a bathroom-floor moment. Especially if your story holds anxiety or depression ... can I lean in and gently tell you something? You are not the only one. I know what it's like to wake up to a daily inner battle that can be overwhelmingly unnoticed by others. A certain strength is required to endure the pain that lingers, particularly when it's unseen. Mark 5 tells the story of a woman who knew a similar kind of pain. This woman lived with an affliction that brought her 12 years of sorrow. Although her pain is described as physical, I often wonder if the emotional isolation she experienced was even more agonizing. According to the Law, she was ceremonially unclean, which would have greatly restricted both her religious and her social life (Leviticus 15:19; Mark 5:25). Mental health struggles can fuel a similar loneliness and sense of spiritual inadequacy, especially if we've been told these lasting struggles are somehow a reflection of our unfaithfulness or distrust in God. When pain of any kind makes us feel less like ourselves and less capable of engaging in relationships, we experience it as suffering. Prolonged pain can also become shame, a hidden hurt that says God might not love us after all. The woman in Mark 5 came to Jesus in a jostling crowd, likely trying not to be seen or found. How I resonate with her approach. Hearing that merely touching His cloak would heal her, she brushed her fingers against the hem of Jesus' garment before trying to escape back into anonymity. I'm always amazed at what the Gospel writer says Jesus did next. Sensing her touch, "Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it" (Mark 5:32). In Greek, the root word of the phrase translated as "looking around" implies purpose and resolve. What I love most about this story is Jesus' relentless pursuit of this hurting woman. He wouldn't let her not be found. The same is true for us. I want you to know that God is not disappointed with you for having anxiety or depression. Throughout the New Testament, Jesus didn't stand at a distance from the afflicted but consistently moved toward them with comfort and care. No part of you is too broken, lifeless or lost for our Good Shepherd to seek out, and He extends His goodness and love. Today, how might He be inviting you to allow yourself to be found? Dear God, help me to receive Your tender love today. In Jesus' Name, Amen. OUR FAVORITE THINGS May is Mental Health Awareness Month!
