Oh, Hi!

Oh, Hi! is a 2025 romantic comedy where Iris and Isaac, a young couple, head for a romantic weekend getaway. When Iris discovers Isaac isn’t committed to exclusivity, she chains him to a bed to convince him they’re soulmates. The arrival of Iris’s friends escalates the situation into a chaotic, humorous mess as they navigate misunderstandings and attempt to resolve their differences. Oh, Hi! Review You know that stereotype that says women aren’t funny? It comes from “comedies” like this. None of the obvious talent that is displayed on both sides of the camera can overcome Oh, Hi!’s intrinsic failings. Written by its lead, Molly Gordon, and director, Sophie Brooks, Oh, Hi! drowns in oblivious playacting at what passes for maturity these days. This gives rise to a loathsome ensemble, for each character’s unacknowledged banality, and a plot that spins its wheels on the greasy lie that is “modern” romantic relationships without a hint of self-awareness of its poison to soften or endear. More than anything, Oh, Hi! feels like an hour and thirty-four minutes of listening to a woman complain about something without her wanting to address the actual problem or attempt to find a logical solution. It even ends with a man acknowledging her feelings and therefore setting things to rights. Oh, Hi! isn’t without its moments. There are five minutes about halfway in, when it looks as though the movie is going to be a less interesting Misery rip-off, and Molly Gordon (The Bear) shows that she’s ready for bigger and better things. However, quickly after that, the story begins to vascilate between repetitive and stale as its pacing tanks and its premise collapses under the film’s clunkily shifting tones. Not even a bizarre and illusion-busting cameo by a criminally misused David Cross is enough to save it. With adequate performances from a cast that seems better than this, and solid direction from a director who should never watch another comedy, let alone write one, Oh, Hi! is a waste of time, money, and theater space.   WOKE ELEMENTS (prepare for spoilers) HE APOLOGIZES TO HER!!!! The film centers on a young woman who goes on a romantic vacation with a man whom she seemingly doesn’t know very well, and she doesn’t realize that he wants only to have a mostly casual sexual relationship with her. Upon learning of his wishes, she goes nearly full Kathy Bates, holding him hostage for 24 hours, chained to a bed. In that time, she first threatens to use a knife to murder him. Then, she “unintentionally” tortures him psychologically as she tries to woo him with insane interpretive dance and an unhinged 12-hour blow-by-blow of every moment of her life until now. She also repeatedly humiliates him by forcing him to pee (with her “help”) into a bowl, each time making an uncomfortable comment about it. Finally, she attempts to erase his memory with a potion that she and her friend make using witchcraft. When the movie ends, HE sincerely apologizes to HER for being unclear about his intentions, and the film treats her as if she has been only slightly (and even a little endearingly) out of line after having been victimized by HIS ambiguity. She does NOT apologize to him once. Modern Hip Mom Her mother gives her tips on how to save the relationship, which include presenting her arguments while naked, etc. Betacuck Her best friend’s boyfriend is a grotesque caricature of manhood that no healthy woman could ever be attracted to.  The post Oh, Hi! first appeared on Worth it or Woke.
