John Lodge, the co-founder, bassist and singer of The Moody Blues passed away last October 10 at the age of 82. The news was shared by his family, who said he died “suddenly and unexpectedly” but didn’t specify the cause. Born in Erdington, Birmingham, England, he was one of the most important musicians of all time. The co-founder, bassist and co-lead singer of The Moody Blues, he inspired countless generations of musicians who had his music as an example of the kind of music they wanted to make. Besides his long career with the British Progressive Rock group, he also released four solo studio albums. The final one was “Days of Future Passed – My Sojourn” (2023) and in the beginning of 2025 he released his final EP “Love Conquers All”. With the news of his death, artists like Slash and Carl Palmer lamented his passing, while others posted long messages that can be seen below.
