Kix Brooks Honored With Star On “Walk Of Champions” For His Support Of Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital At Vanderbilt
Kix Brooks being recognized for his philanthropic efforts.
One half of Brooks & Dunn was recently at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt for a ceremony that ended with Brooks officially joining the children’s hospital’s Walk of Champions. In case you aren’t familiar, the Walk of Champions is in place to celebrate those in the entertainment industry that give back to Monroe Carell.
Kix Brooks has always made an effort to help those in need throughout his career, and has used his Arrington Vineyards Harvest Party, his Celebrity Golf Classic and the Growing to New Heights Campaign to raise money and give back to the Nashville children’s hospital. The country music legend as been working with Monroe Carell across decades, and he was honored with a star to be placed in a special part of the hospital earlier this week.
Margaret Rush, the President of Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, had nothing but good things to say about Kix before she brought him out on stage so he could say a few words about receiving the star:
“Kix brought the music industry and helped us, not just at Monroe Carell but actually at Vanderbilt, marry music and healing. And that has touched lives not just in this building, but across our campus. He has been a true leader, in our community as we know, a friend and partner for us, and we are so grateful.”
Brooks was grateful himself as he stepped up behind the podium and said he has “more celebrity than he deserves.”
The country music singer used most of his time to thank all of those in the hospital – the doctors, nurses and staff – for being heroes every single day at Monroe Carell. Kix Brooks has spent a lot of time within the children’s hospital at Vanderbilt, and knows how taxing the job can be on the staff.
He also made sure to point out the courage and strength of the parents that watch their children battle disease and sickness. As a parent himself, Kix said he can very much sympathize with the parents he’s interacted with over the years:
“I can in all honesty say I have never been so humbled with anything as this… we do our best to try and support the work that’s going on here. God bless all of you (parents). I have two healthy grown kids now that I’m really proud of, and I know as a parent there’s really nothing tougher than having to face whatever when your kids aren’t well and are struggling.”
Immediately following Kix Brook’s time at the podium, his Walk of Champions star was revealed. His star will soon be placed on the Walk of Champions alongside other country music artists like Dierks Bentley and Rascal Flatts. You could tell that receiving the star meant a lot to him… but it’s also very clear that Kix Brooks never did it for the recognition.
The country star helped in any way that he can because he loves the kids and the families that he’s been able to connect with through his charitable efforts, and you can hear him talk more about that in his speech from the Walk of Champions ceremony below:
