After Defending Trump at Knicks Game, Whoopi Is BIG BAD He Was There

While she didn’t blame President Trump for why the New York Knickerbockers lost to the San Antonio Spurs in Game 3 of the NBA finals, ABC News moderator Whoopi Goldberg was BIG BAD at the President for attending the game. During Tuesday’s episode of The View, Goldberg whined about the traffic and blame Trump for fights breaking out at watch parties, but on Monday’s episode, she defended his attendance citing his Knicks fandom. In a viral clip from NewsBusters, Goldberg gave Trump and Mayor Mamdani a full-throated endorsement. “I’m sorry. Trump and Mayor Mamdani are Knicks fans and have been, they're New Yorkers,” she argued. “I think anybody who's a Knicks fan should be there. You earned the right as a Knicks fan. I don't care who you are. I don't have to like you.”   Knicks fan Whoopi Goldberg defends Trump and Mamdani attending the game 3 of the NBA finals to see the Knicks play (she even uses Trump's real name): "Trump and Mayor Mamdani are Knicks fans and have been, they're New Yorkers." pic.twitter.com/2DUkiDi5ay — Nicholas Fondacaro (@NickFondacaro) June 8, 2026   Twenty-four hours later and Goldberg went from uncharacteristically using Trump’s real name to going back to her moniker for him. “Well, you know, a lot of Knicks fans are not happy with you-know-who right now,” she declared at the top of the show. She was bitter at the traffic and the security: He came into town, messed up everything, you couldn't go -- you couldn't make a left. You couldn't make a right. Couldn't go across the street. You couldn't buy anything. What the -- and they’re blaming -- [Images of the crowd appear on screen] Look at it. I mean it's crazy. These people have been waiting for this to happen and so this man comes in and he's a fan and okay, but my goodness!   After defending Trump attending the Knicks game on yesterday's episode, Whoopi Goldberg is now upset that it created traffic. She doesn't blame him for the loss though. pic.twitter.com/wzQi0fdkN2 — Nicholas Fondacaro (@NickFondacaro) June 9, 2026   She also noted that some fans were blaming Trump for the Knicks’ loss. But when the crowd started to applaud the notion, Goldberg stepped in. She reminded people that Trump “doesn’t have that power and that the team was obviously not playing their best: And they are blaming him for ending the Knicks' winning streak last night. No, no, no now, come on now. Come on now. They were not playing great ball. That was on us. That's -- this guy -- I have to just reiterate the fact that this man does not have that kind of power. We have to remind people. He doesn't have the power. [Co-host Sunny Hostin scrunches her face in opposition] I see your face and I know how you feel and you can say what you want. But by saying that it's his fault that we lost means that there's no responsibility taken. These guys were not playing at their best.   In all seriousness, Whoopi argues that the money from the weaponization fund should go to the Knicks fans Trump inconvenienced by being a the game. She also blames him for the brawls that broke out at watch parties across the city. pic.twitter.com/MX5MhPrKwx — Nicholas Fondacaro (@NickFondacaro) June 9, 2026   A bit later in the conversation, Goldberg seemingly invoked the controversial weaponization fund Trump supported. She demanded money from that program (which was halted) be used to compensate inconvenienced fans along with venders, bars, and restaurants in the area of Madison Square Garden: GOLDBERG: You now -- you are trying to fight to have money to give to people who did bad stuff, give us some of that money so we can pay the people. SUNNY HOSTIN: Can we have the money back? GOLDBERG: So, we can give the money back to the people would have worked their behinds off to come out and do this. Because, had you not come people would have been able to be at the watch party outside. HOSTIN: The watch party, the bars, the restaurants! Goldberg also blamed Trump for brawls that broke out at watch parties. “And perhaps the fights that happened in places like Bryant Park would not have happened,” she chided. The transcript is below. UNDERWOOD: Watch from house like other Americans watched from the house! HOSTIN: He got a big UFC cage! UNDERWOOD: That’s right! HOSTIN: He could’ve had a watch party there! GOLDBERG: Because he had more space in that box. (…)
