A Day to Remember formed in 2003 in Ocala, Florida, when vocalist Jeremy McKinnon, guitarists Tom Denney and Neil Westfall, bassist Joshua Woodard, and drummer Bobby Scruggs united with the goal of blending pop-punk melodies with the heaviness of metalcore. Their early DIY ethos led to the release of their debut album And Their Name Was Treason in 2005 through Indianola Records. After gaining traction in the underground scene, they signed with Victory Records and replaced Scruggs with drummer Alex Shelnutt.
