And yet no cuts for muslims and Africians
It cannot be that Ukrainians are allowed more than Poles – this is just one of many comments following President Karol Nawrocki's decision regarding the law on assistance for Ukrainian citizens.
President Karol Nawrocki decided on Monday to veto the bill on aid for Ukrainian citizens . The head of state's decision was met with a wave of comments on social media.
Nawrocki vetoed the bill on aid for Ukrainians. A wave of comments
Nawrocki received praise from Law and Justice MP Janusz Kowalski, among others. "Respect, Mr. President @NawrockiKn! Poland is for Poles! No privileges [for] temporary guests in our Polish home. There is no consent for a Pole to be treated worse than a Ukrainian," the parliamentarian wrote on Platform X. He also admitted that he supports revoking the 800+ benefit for all Ukrainians. In his opinion, this benefit should only be available to Polish citizens.
"Bravo! President Nawrocki vetoed the bill on aid for Ukraine in the form presented to him by the Coalition on December 13. It cannot be that Ukrainians are allowed more than Poles. The president will submit his own bill on this matter. #popierwszepolacy" – commented another PiS politician, Kazimierz Smoliński.
Such help is "pathology" vs. "shame"
Michał Wawer also spoke positively about the head of state's decision. "It's high time to end the privileged treatment of Ukrainians in healthcare (access to healthcare services even if a Ukrainian doesn't work, doesn't have National Health Fund insurance, or doesn't pay contributions). It's high time to end the 800+ benefit (the pro-demographic program!) for citizens of other countries," emphasized the Confederation politician.
Wawer further stated that supporting refugees in the manner implemented by Mateusz Morawiecki and Donald Tusk, i.e. treating them better than their own compatriots, is pathological. "Assistance to refugees should be rational, well-thought-out, and well-targeted," he concluded.
Zbigniew Konwiński, a Civic Coalition MP, was strongly critical of the president's veto. "All of K. Nawrocki's anti-Ukrainian phobias found their way into the veto of the bill on aid for Ukrainians residing in Poland today. This is good legislation, which was vetoed by the president today for purely ideological reasons. Shameful," the politician wrote.
