Sharon supports campaign to change Birmingham Airport’s name to Ozzy Osbourne

Just like Liverpool is known as the place where The Beatles were born, Birmingham is the hometown of Black Sabbath, the most influential band to emerge from the city. Liverpool’s airport is named after John Lennon, and inspired by that, comedian and broadcaster Dan Hudson launched a petition that already has more than 70,000 signatures, calling for Birmingham Airport to be renamed in tribute to Ozzy Osbourne, who passed away last July at the age of 76. His widow and ex-manager Sharon supported this campaign in an interview with BBC. “It would be amazing. The world loved Ozzy. It’s just a dream right now but sometimes dreams come true.” Hudson said it was “amazing” to see Sharon supporting the idea. “The campaign is growing and growing and there’s even more momentum now with Sharon on board,” he said. Besides Black Sabbath, other famous bands that came out of Birmingham are Judas Priest, Electric Light Orchestra, Duran Duran, UB40, The Moody Blues, Steve Winwood and Fine Young Cannibals. The “Back to the Beginning” festival happened on July 5, 2025, at the Villa Park in Birmingham, Sabbath’s hometown. During that festival, many bands like Metallica, Slayer, Guns N’ Roses and supergroups formed by former members of Ozzy’s solo years, paid tribute to him and Sabbath playing some of their famous tracks.
