Foreign. After his coup against Venezuela, US President Donald Trump again tightens the tone of Greenland and reiterates the demand for American control. In conversations with reporters, he hints at a timetable for a takeover – and at the same time mocks Denmark’s attempts to defend the territory.
"They sent a dog sled there," he said.

Trump held on to his line despite calls from Denmark's prime minister to stop threatening Greenland.
"We need Greenland from a national security perspective, and Denmark will not be able to do so," he said in response to a reporter's question.
The president then went further and mentioned a timetable.
"We'll take on Greenland in about two months... let's talk about Greenland in 20 days," he continued.
Trump also took the opportunity to ridicule the Danish government's measures to strengthen security on the island.
Do you know what Denmark did recently to increase safety in Greenland? They sent a dog sled to there, he said.
The background is that Trump re-established Greenland's strategic importance in the Arctic, in the wake of the U.S. capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. Over the weekend, Trump said in an interview that the United States has "a need" of Greenland.
"We absolutely have a need for Greenland," he said.
Denmark's Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has strongly rejected Trump's statements and urged Washington to stop threatening the country.
"I have to say this very clearly to the United States: it is utterly absurd to say that the United States should take control of Greenland," she said in a statement.
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has also supported Denmark.
"Only Denmark and Greenland have the right to decide on issues relating to Denmark and Greenland. Sweden stands fully for our neighboring country," he wrote in a post on X.
