Domestic. A nurse at Danderyd Hospital is sentenced to two years in prison after stealing jewelry from elderly patients during her shifts. Since she has been granted Swedish citizenship, she cannot be deported with current legislation.
Attunda District Court states that the immigrant woman, who in her 50s, took jewelry from elderly people who were cared for in the hospital emergency department.
The court convicts her for three counts of aggravated theft in the years 2020, 2024 and 2025.
Police suspicions were raised after her sale of gold at pawnshops began to be reviewed. The investigation showed that between 2020 and 2025 she sold gold to mortgage banks and gold traders on over a hundred occasions for more than one million kronor.
A decisive track became a gold watch that she pledged in the spring of 2020. The clock had a unique engraving and could be linked to a patient in his 90s who had been cared for in the emergency room.
Several of the victims were elderly patients in a particularly vulnerable situation. Among them was a man in his 80s who lost his gold chain as well as a blind woman in her 80s who had broken her hip.
At a search warrant in the woman's residence in central Stockholm, the police found a large amount of jewelry and other valuables.
In questioning, she has explained the crimes with her gambling addiction.
I am very much game addicted.
The Inquiry shows that for five years she has made transfers to online casinos of more than SEK 2.4 million.
It’s like drugs when you’re addicted. It's mentally stressful for me. That's all I've thought about, the game," the woman said in questioning.
She also said the game "took over my brain."
The court judges the thefts as serious because the patients were in a vulnerable situation and because the woman has taken advantage of her position in health care.
The woman is also convicted of aggravated heeling as well as for the theft of objects from her own.
