What We Know About the Seven U.S. Service Members Killed in the Iran War

Seven American service members have died in the war in Iran in the days since the U.S. and Israel launched the initial military strikes on Feb. 28. About 140 more U.S. service members have been wounded in the conflict, Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell confirmed to TIME on Tuesday. The "vast majority" of those injuries were minor, according to Parnell; 108 of the wounded service members "have already returned to duty." Eight service members, though, are "severely injured," he said. The war, which has quickly expanded in the Middle East, has killed hundreds of people across the region. At least 1,270 people in Iran have died, state media outlets have reported. In Lebanon, where Israel has carried out extensive air strikes, at least 486 people have been killed, according to the country's health ministry.
