The Häme Police Department reported new information on the incident on Sunday morning.

According to police, there was an “older woman” behind the wheel of a passenger car, “droving between the lanes and sometimes driving in the middle lane on the side of the grassland.”

The driver occasionally drove on the motorway at a speed of 30 km/h, police said in a statement.

Several reports were made to the emergency services of the driver in Lahti. The patrol reached the car on the Orimattila side.

The patrol tried to stop the vehicle with stop lights and drive it next to it.

"Because the driver caused clear incidents to other road users, the police decided to stop the vehicle by wedging the roadside by using a police car," the statement said.

"The police car first wedged the passenger car lightly, and the driver accelerated without intending to stop.

Eventually, the police managed to stop a passenger car in the roadside railing near the Tuuliharja gas station. The police car and the suspect's vehicle were damaged.

The driver blew 0.21 mg/l into the breathalyzer, or about 0.5 per mil. He was used for a blood test. The driver has been banned from driving on suspicion of drunk driving and aggravated endangerment of traffic.

Before the wedge, a police car drove several kilometres next to a passenger car. Veeti Vahera, who witnessed the situation, estimates that the cars drove side by side for about 6–7 minutes.

The speed of the passenger car varied during the operation, Vahera says: sometimes it accelerated to 60 km/h from a speed of 40 km/h.

Several reports were made to the emergency services of the driver of the underspeed.
