FOREIGN. Yesterday, Russia opened a humanitarian corridor to release civilian women and children who sought refuge under the Azovstal steelworks in Mariupol, reports SVT. But Ukraine, which has soldiers in the same bunker system, refuses to release them.

On Monday, Russia declared a ceasefire for the area around Azovstal and declared that civilians were free to evacuate through humanitarian corridors. But no civilians were released.

Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk told the Telegram that Ukraine does not agree to civilians leaving the area.

"Unfortunately, there is no agreement on humanitarian corridors from Azovstal today," she writes.

SVT has also posted a children's video from Ukraine's armed forces where they see soldiers walking around among the children in the building.

- We have food for the children, the soldier says even though the only thing he carries with him in the video is a weapon.

However, SVT sees no reason to question the arrangement.

"They are there to provide food to those who are trapped underground," the state TV giant states on the news site.

The Russian side has less left over for Ukraine's habit of mixing soldiers with children and now accuses the neighboring country of using civilians as human shields.

"Kyiv authorities have once again cynically undermined a humanitarian operation," a statement from Russia's armed forces said.
