Criminals convicted and deported from Denmark will serve time in a prison in Kosovo instead of on Danish soil. It is clear after Denmark has concluded an agreement with the country.

Hækkerup is also happy to see that those sentenced to deportation in Kosovo pay for their health care in prison by paying for private health insurance, something that may become relevant in the future.

Anyone who commits crimes in the Kosovo prison will be prosecuted in Kosovo. If the person is convicted, the person must serve the sentence in a prison in Kosovo and during that period the Danish sentence is "paused".

Sent directly home
After serving a sentence, the criminals must be sent directly to their home countries without returning to Denmark first.
