Swedes are getting fewer and fewer and immigrants are getting more and more, both in demographic proportion of the population and in absolute numbers. Alongside mass immigration, it is a high rate of childbearing among foreign-born women and an ever-lower rate among Swedish women that is driving the development.

The demographic profile of residents in Sweden is changing dramatically and at a rapid pace. In cities such as Malmö and Södertälje, Swedes are already in the minority and in many residential areas Swedes are almost completely absent. If current trends continue, Swedes will be a minority in Sweden in just a few decades.

It is not only Sweden's exceptionally high mass immigration that drives the development, but also that foreign-born women account for an increasingly large proportion of the birth rate. This at the same time as Swedish women are giving birth to fewer and fewer children. Already today, as many as one in three new mothers were born abroad, which is a drastic increase in just a few decades.

In the 1970s, only one in ten newborns had a foreign-born mother. Today, that percentage has more than tripled and according to Statistics Norway's forecast, it is a development that, if no measures are taken, will continue up to and beyond the breaking point when a minority of newborn children in Sweden have a Swedish mother.

More and more people are born into segregation and parallel societies
At the same time as the percentage of foreign-born mothers is increasing, there are also significantly more of them compared to before who were born in geographically and culturally distant countries, whose children are born into parallel societies and segregation with non-Swedish values.

Since the percentage of Swedish mothers is still more than those born abroad and gives birth to fewer and fewer children, the birth rate is still falling overall. However, the population as a whole is growing as a result of mass immigration.

In the short term, however, childbearing in Sweden will stop decreasing and instead increase when the proportion of foreign-born women from cultures where you traditionally have many children increases. However, Swedish children of Swedish parents continue to decrease with second-generation non-Western immigrants increasing, of which a high proportion, just like today, will be poorly integrated into what we see today as Swedish culture and Swedish values.

In SCB's long-term demographic forecast, in contrast to the current situation, a leveling off of the proportion of foreign-born mothers is seen and after 2070 even a small decrease . It is unclear what the authority is basing that forecast on. With continued, mainly non-Western, immigration of around 100,000 people each year and a continued decline in childbearing among Swedish women, most things point to the current trend continuing and accelerating instead.
