This week, the results of the Stockholm survey were presented, where young people answer questions about crime, drugs, gambling and mental health. This year's survey shows, among other things, that the percentage who feel unsafe in their residential area has increased, especially among girls.
In 2016, the number of girls in the second year of high school who were forced to have sex or raped almost doubled. The level is still significantly higher than before the so-called "refugee crisis", but fell slightly in this year's survey compared to the survey in 2020.
A similar development can be seen in the number of students who state that they have been victims of robbery. The shares doubled between 2018 and 2020 in all groups, but have fallen slightly in this year's survey. Whether this is due to the fact that young people stayed at home to an increasing extent during the pandemic than before is not clear from the survey.
The Stockholm survey has been conducted every two years since the 1970s in various forms. Participation is voluntary for independent schools, while municipal schools are required to participate. This year, approximately 11,500 students from the ninth and second year of high school participated.
