- You put on ten to fifteen items, look over your shoulder and see if anyone is looking. If it is not, you are content with scanning an item, says store manager Pontus Granqvist to state television .

According to Granqvist, this amounts to millions each year.

Four out of twelve
In total, four out of twelve ICA Maxi stores in Västra Götaland have removed the possibility of self-checkout during the past year. This applies to the stores in Skövde, Högsbo and on Mölndalsvägen in Gothenburg.

However, the stores still have the option to scan goods themselves when it is linked to personal membership cards.

Inflation and pandemic rules
At the trade organization Livsmedelshandlarna, it is believed that inflation and abolished pandemic regulations may be a couple of reasons for the increased cheating.
