FOREIGN. The Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg is now making headlines in Germany after recommending that the country not follow through on the decision to shut down its remaining nuclear power plants.

Greta points out that the Germans are replacing nuclear power with coal power - which is considered much worse for the so-called climate.

- If they [nuclear power plants] are already running, I think it would be a mistake to shut them down and switch to coal, she says in an interview with German ARD, reports Die Welt.

Greta Thunberg declares that it is "a bad idea" to rely on coal as long as the "other" option still exists.

The Swedish climate activist is referring to the federal German government's crisis strategy to bring coal-fired power plants from the reserve into use in order to reduce electricity production from Russian gas. According to the government's plan, two of the three remaining nuclear power plants must also remain connected to the electricity grid as an emergency reserve after the previously decided shutdown date at the end of this year - but only until mid-April 2023 and only under certain conditions.
