Woman gang-raped in bus shelter - four Afghans arrested

A 20-year-old woman has been gang-raped in a bus stop at Kleiva in Vesterålen, Norway. Four men are now charged with the rape - and all have a background in Afghanistan.

It was during the night of Sunday 30 October that the gang rape against a 20-year-old mother of young children took place. The woman reported the incident in the afternoon of the same Sunday and she was questioned on Tuesday.

Images and rumors quickly began to spread on social media - but the Norwegian police did not want to give any specific details. What has been established is that it is about four perpetrators who all "have affiliation to Nordland", i.e. the northernmost part of Norway.

But according to reliable information to the Norwegian news site Document , all of the four accused men have a background in Afghanistan. Three of the men are 23 years old and the fourth is 24 years old. It is still unknown which country or countries the perpetrators are citizens of.

All are charged with aggravated rape
The suspected perpetrators were deprived of their liberty on Thursday with a ban on letters and visits – three of them for four weeks and the fourth for two weeks. All four must live in complete isolation for a week. Prosecutor in the Nordland police district, Rita Hermansen Dahl, said on Thursday afternoon that none of the men have pleaded guilty to the crime. All demanded to be released.

All four are charged with aggravated rape or having participated in aggravated rape. The police consider the rape to be serious because it is believed to have been committed by several people together - thus a so-called gang rape. This type of rape can give the perpetrators 21 years in prison in Norway.
