FOREIGN. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has removed a false post he wrote on Twitter that Iran had sentenced 15,000 protesters to death. The real number is 3.
According to information spread in the Western media, around 15,000 people have been arrested in Iran after taking part in the violent riots of recent months.
Of those indicted, at least 20 are accused of crimes where the death penalty is included in the penalty scale.
But on social media, various celebrities and political commentators are spreading false information that 15,000 Iranian protesters would have been sentenced to death, reports CBC News.
One of those celebrities is Canadian Liberal Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
In a post on Twitter on Monday, Justin Trudeau condemned "the Iranian regime's barbaric decision to sentence nearly 15,000 protesters to death".
After other users pointed out that the post was fake, the 50-year-old liberal deleted his post.
In fact, three people have received the death penalty after taking part in the riots. These are people who allegedly killed or tried to kill police officers and security guards and set fire to government buildings.
