A 1974 man suspected of killing his wife in ULLANLINNA is a psychiatrist and doctor of medicine by training.
He works for a large company providing health services, where he has been employed for several years, according to his LinkedIn profile. He also runs his own company, which is listed as a medical clinic and specialist services business. According to the information registered with the Trade Register, he is the owner of the company and the only full member of its board of directors.
The suspect has also been investigated for violent crime. His research focused on risk factors for recidivism in violent crime data.
He also claims on his work website to be a forensic psychiatrist.
According to IS, the man has no criminal record, at least for the last ten years.
IS interviewed a man from Helsinki, who had visited the suspect at a remote clinic last spring due to work-related fatigue.
- He seemed so relaxed and even cheerful, the man says.
The man describes the doctor as leaving a professional impression. The meeting was "even surprisingly pleasant", the man was easy to talk to.
The man from Helsinki was shocked to learn that the doctor who had treated him was suspected of killing his wife.
- When I found out that he was a suspect, I was quite confused. Somehow I can't believe that the same guy I went to see would be capable of such a thing.
The man's wife, the homicide victim, was born in 1975. She worked for a company in the financial sector.
She was reported missing on Friday, according to police. The missing person's report said that she had not come home from work on Friday.
The suspected homicide took place in the Ullanlinna district of Helsinki.
The suspected homicide took place in the Ullanlinna district of Helsinki.
Detective Inspector Jari Koski of the Helsinki police says that later investigations, however, revealed that the woman had not even gone to work on Friday morning. However, the exact time of the woman's death is not yet known. The police will not say who reported her missing.
According to IS, the victim and the suspect had been married for about a year and a half.
The couple lived together in an apartment in Ullanlinna, where police suspect the homicide took place.
A stranger, who had known about the woman's disappearance, had noticed her husband doing something suspicious and reported it to the police.
The suspect was apprehended while he was moving the wrapped body into the car. According to Mr Koski, the suspect had not yet had time to move the body to the car, but was caught before he did.
The suspect's spouse was suspected by police to have intended to transport the body somewhere else. A neighbour interviewed by IS said that he had seen a stick and a bag next to the car. A neighbour interviewed by HS had also noticed that the suspect had tried to load what looked like a carpet in a garbage bag into his SUV.
Koski does not want to elaborate on the way the body was wrapped or on what kind of injuries the victim had.
Koski said police are now determining whether to record the investigation as a homicide or murder. Koski says that the police do not yet have enough information to determine whether the act meets any of the qualifying criteria for murder. An act is investigated as murder if, for example, the investigation shows that the suspect committed the act with deliberate premeditation, i.e. planned it beforehand.
According to Mr Koski, the suspect had not yet been questioned on Sunday morning.
