DOMESTIC. The strong spread of covid-19 in Sweden continues, according to the Public Health Authority. Now there are hundreds a week who die with the disease and the hospitals are filled with the infected. Of the deceased, almost nine out of ten are vaccinated.

Almost 2,200 corona patients are treated in Swedish hospitals, according to the latest figures from the National Board of Health and Welfare.

It is already more than last winter's peak, which was reached some way into January.

The number of patients with covid-19 in intensive care is estimated at 48, writes Läkartidningen.

Over 200 confirmed cases of covid-19 deaths have been reported so far for week 50. That compares to an average of 122 deaths over the previous three weeks.

Nine out of ten vaccinated
The vast majority of those who died were vaccinated. Both during week 49 and week 51, vaccinated accounted for 86 percent of the deaths, according to FHM's statistics.

Of the deaths reported up to Thursday for week 51, 75 were vaccinated and 3 (ie only 4 percent) were vaccinated.

86 percent also happens to be the proportion of the population in Sweden that is vaccinated with at least two shots.

Even in the intensive care units, a large majority of the hospitalized corona patients, around three out of four, are vaccinated.

Due to the Christmas holiday, according to FHM, there may be a lag in the data that is reported and the number of diagnosed cases may be affected by temporarily changed search patterns for care and sampling.

- We are seeing an increase in the number of cases of covid-19 in home care and at SÄBO. We assess the social spread as extensive and it affects the burden on care and the number of deaths. It is too early to say when the peak in the spread of infection will be reached, says state epidemiologist Anders Lindblom.

Confirmed cases of influenza have simultaneously increased by 60 percent between weeks 50 and 51. Since the season started in week 48, the increase in the number of cases has been strong. So far, it is influenza type A that dominates.

Cases of RS virus increased by 14 percent during week 51 compared to week 50. The number of people treated in intensive care with RS virus or influenza has increased in recent weeks.
