Is this true, or just the left crying
TAKE IT HOME: "Extremists like Matt Gaetz and Lauren Boebert" will completely control the new speaker, says an analysis in the leftist newspaper Dagens Nyheter. In fact, it's about genuinely conservative Republicans taking control of the liberals in the House.
The "extreme right" won the battle for Congress

FOREIGN. The liberal Republican Kevin McCarthy was indeed elected Speaker yesterday - but he became so by allowing himself to be completely controlled by the extreme right phalanx of the Republicans. In an analysis in DN , the foreign affairs commentator Martin Gelin now notes with disappointment that "extremists" on the right have completely taken control of the House of Representatives. Something that – apart from the newspaper's childish choice of words – is actually true.
The victory of the right in the United States

That the United States would get a parliament whose one chamber is controlled by a genuine right was perhaps not entirely expected. But in his quest to become Speaker, Kevin McCarthy bowed to various demands from the Republican Party's right flank, which could have consequences, among other things, for the contributions to Ukraine.
McCarthy agreed to give the most serious right-wing members seats on key committees, to allow them to make unlimited additions to any new budget bill, and to give them an opportunity to arrange votes to fire him as Speaker.
He is thus, in a rather reassuring way, completely controlled by genuinely conservative people within the far right of the Republicans.
In order to resolve the conflict with the party's right flank, McCarthy was also forced to agree that the Republicans' most important campaign organization should stop sabotaging far-right candidates in Republican primaries.
The change is expected to open the door for more genuine right-wing politicians within the Republicans in the future, and make it more difficult for the party's left phalanx, often internally referred to as "cuckservatives", to succeed in the party's own elections.
This is, of course, welcome news for many, but not for Dagens Nyheter, where the foreign affairs commentator Martin Gelin is now sitting and is really frustrated by what happened in the world's most important country.
"A radical right-wing House of Representatives will not pass a single new law, but that is precisely the point," he writes in an analysis. "Preventing Washington from working, stopping the democratic process, is precisely the promise that the right wing of the party, dominated by extremists like Matt Gaetz and Lauren Boebert, is making to their own constituents."
That the conservative duo and their allies can withdraw their support at any moment and have the speaker fired is what upsets Gelin the most.
"Every time McCarthy risks cooperating with Biden and the Senate, Boebert and Gaetz can immediately arrange a new vote, where he is fired as speaker," he states in his analysis.
According to Gelin, it is not only the civil wars within the Republican Party that can have consequences. The new House of Representatives may also have consequences for the world economy. A parliament that cannot agree on the budget could lead to the US entering a new financial crisis and the country losing its position as the world's leading superpower, he believes.
Another consequence of the right-wing radical House of Representatives could be that aid to Ukraine becomes more difficult, Gelin fears. Many within the right-wing phalanx want aid to Ukraine to be reduced.
Finally, the right-wing radical House of Representatives could have consequences for the democratic process in the United States, he believes, because the right-wing extremists will try to influence the elections in different ways.
A frustrated Martin Gelin concludes by stating that McCarthy made a really bad deal, and will now effectively serve as a spokesperson for the American far right:
"He got nothing concrete in return other than the Pyrrhic victory of becoming Speaker of a House of Representatives where the most extreme right flank can now control him like a puppet," he writes.
