The Public Health Agency now recommends vaccination for the following groups:

* "Men who have sex with men" with increased risk of monkeypox and "transgender people who have sex with men", with increased risk of monkeypox. "There is now experience with vaccination of children and young people. Therefore, vaccination can also be offered to men who are 17 years of age or younger, belong to one of the groups above and are in need of vaccination," writes the authority .

* People who have sex with men for compensation.

* Persons at risk of exposure to monkeypox who are judged by the attending physician or responsible manager with responsibility for the work environment to be in need of vaccination.

The number of new disease cases has dropped significantly in Sweden and within Europe. So far, 260 cases of monkeypox have been reported in Sweden. Since Sweden gained access to the vaccine against monkeypox in the summer of 2022, roughly three thousand people have received dose 1 and roughly two thousand people dose 2. Together with other infection control measures, this has contributed to reducing the spread of the disease.

The vaccine Jynneos, which can be used against monkeypox, has a good effect according to a number of scientific studies conducted in the fall of 2022. However, there is a global shortage of the vaccine. Sweden has been allocated vaccines through the EU's preparedness authority Hera, which allocated and distributed the vaccine to the EU countries based on population.

The availability of vaccines has now increased. This means that healthcare can offer vaccines to more people. The Public Health Authority recommends that all persons deemed to have an increased risk of being infected with monkeypox be offered the vaccine.

For people who have previously been vaccinated against smallpox, one dose of vaccine is sufficient. Others are recommended to take two doses.
