Crock Pot Apple Dump Cake is an easy 3-ingredient dessert made with apple cinnamon muffin mix, apple pie filling and melted butter. Toss it all in and let the slow cooker do the work! A 3-INGREDIENT APPLE DESSERT This apple dump cake is the perfect autumn treat. Flavors of cinnamon and spiced apples just scream “FALL!” It’s a simple weeknight dessert that is sure to be the perfect ending to any meal! Plus, using the Crock Pot makes this a no brainer recipe- you just dump it all in the Slow Cooker and let it work its magic. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: What is a dump cake? Dump cakes may not have the prettiest name but they get it from the idea of dumping all the ingredients in and then letting it bake. In this case, we’re baking in a crock pot. They are some of the simplest but most scrumptious desserts you can make. Perfect for the holidays when oven space is at a premium! What if I can’t find the muffin mix? I used Martha White’s muffin mix. Jiffy also makes an apple cinnamon muffin mix and I am sure there are other brands that do as well. You need about 14 ounces (it’s okay if it is a little less or a little more) Also, this can be made with a boxed cake mix instead of the packs of muffin mix. I think a spice cake mix would work perfectly. Other cakes mixes could be used, but I think a spiced cake mix would pair perfectly here. How do you know when the cake is done? You’ll see the melted butter being absorbed into the powdery cake mix and then the cake mix will no longer be in a powder form any more, it will look like cake. If you can stick a toothpick in it or a fork, like you do with a cake baked in a traditional cake pan, it’ll come out with just some crumbs, or nothing at all and it will be baked through. If it comes out with runny batter on it, it needs a bit more time. Can I mix the butter and muffin mix together first? Yes. It’s a matter of personal preference. It’s totally fine if you want to separately stir the butter in with the dry cake or muffin mix first, then sprinkle it on top of the apple filling. Whatever you prefer to do should work. This is such a forgiving recipe, you really can’t go wrong. Can I add anything else to this Crock Pot Apple Cake? Sure thing. I think adding about a teaspoon or so of ground cinnamon to the apple pie filling would really enhance the flavor. I also think you can add some dried cranberries (Craisins) to the filling for a fun and festive twist or even some chopped pecans or walnuts added would add a nice crunch. Can I make this in the oven instead? Yep! I’d dump it all in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish and bake at 350 for 40-50 minutes or so. How do you store leftovers? Leftover Apple Dump Cake should be stored in an airtight container and can be kept in the fridge for up to 4 days. You can freeze leftovers for up to 3 months in a freezer safe container. INGREDIENTS NEEDED: (SEE RECIPE CARD BELOW FOR THE FULL RECIPE) apple cinnamon muffin mix– you could also use Apple Cider muffin mix or cake mix options suggested above in the Frequently Asked Question section. apple pie filling– use your favorite store bought pie filling or make your own. You can use sugar free options as well. butter – It needs to be real butter and not margarine. if using unsalted butter, add a pinch of salt. That little bit of salts helps to offset the overall sweetness of this dessert. HOW TO MAKE CROCK POT APPLE DUMP CAKE: Lightly spray a 4-6 quart slow cooker (crock pot) with no-stick cooking spray. Pour in two cans of apple pie filling. Evenly sprinkle two packets of muffin mix on top of the apple pie filling. Make sure it is spread out and not too thick in any area. Pour melted butter over entire muffin mix. Note: the butter won’t cover all the dry muffin mix. You can also just slice the butter and evenly place it all over the muffin mix. Cover and cook on low for 3-5 hours. It took closer to 5 hours in my slow cooker. You want the top to be cooked thoroughly and the apple pie filling should be bubbling up from underneath. Serve warm with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream! CRAVING MORE RECIPES?
