Here’s 2 possible ways to make Homemade Buttermilk with simple pantry staples so you never have to run out of buttermilk ever again!
ENDLESS CREAMY BUTTERMILK
This is so easy to learn How to Make Homemade Buttermilk. It never fails that you go to make a recipe and realize one of the key ingredients is buttermilk and you forgot to pick it up at the store. Buttermilk has so many uses. It can be used to marinate chicken to make it more tender and flavorful (like in my Southern Fried Chicken recipe) or it can be used in biscuits to make them soft while also providing acidity for leavening (like in my Buttermilk Biscuit recipe). Sometimes only buttermilk will do and regular milk just isn’t the best option. So with this easy how-to, you’ll never have to worry about running out of buttermilk again!
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Is Homemade Buttermilk better with lemon or vinegar? I personally think the lemon tastes better, but both the vinegar and lemon produce the same end result. If you only have one over the other, it’ll turn out just fine. How do I store Homemade Buttermilk? Keep your fresh made buttermilk in a storage container for 1 week in the fridge. You can also freeze it for 3 months.
INGREDIENTS NEEDED: (SEE RECIPE CARD BELOW FOR THE FULL RECIPE)
whole milk– or milk of your choice – whole milk works best for most recipes. I have not tried this with any other type of milk substitute.
white vinegar or lemon juice- if using lemon juice, it MUST be fresh squeezed lemon juice. The bottled stuff can make it super acidic and throw off the flavor so fresh is recommended.
