1813–United States gets nicknamed "Uncle Sam" when a meat packer named Samuel White, who supplied food to the army during the War of 1812, writes “U.S’ for United States on each box he packed. His co-workers started referring to the initials as “Uncle Sam,” and hence, a nickname was born.
