The Grand Blanc Mormon Church in Michigan was the scene of a horrific shooting and fire on Sunday during the service. At least 2 innocents are dead, and the suspect is deceased. The church is nearly a total loss from fire.

The suspect in the Mormon church shooting rammed his vehicle into the church and began shooting as hundreds of worshippers attended the service. He was identified as Thomas Jacob Sanford, 40, from Burton, Michigan was a Marine veteran. The motive has not yet been established. Ten people were shot, two fatally. Police entered the church immediately, shooting and killing the suspect. Law enforcement believes the suspect intentionally set the church on fire.

Authorities are concerned that some of those in attendance may have been trapped when the fire broke out and are advising that the death toll may rise.

Several North Idaho churches have security teams with armed members – and they meet regularly for coordination and practice. Christians can no longer take church for granted as “safe places.”
