Pam Bondi Tangles With Schiff and Things Get Heated: 'If You Worked for Me—You Would Have Been Fired!'

Pam Bondi confronts Adam Schiff in a heated Senate exchange, defending President Trump.

As my colleague Ward Clark reported earlier Tuesday, Attorney General Pam Bondi brought “the thunder” to Illinois Democrat Sen. Dick Durbin regarding his gaslighting about Chicago crime statistics. He looked like a deer in the headlights in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee as she defended President Trump’s ordering the National Guard to the Windy City. “We're there to help make America safe and Illinois safe — whether or not you want to," she said.

But that didn’t seem to tire her out, because California Sen. Adam Schiff later thought he’d come in with the heat, and she let him have it. Schiff is one of the smarmiest politicians on the planet and promised for years that he had evidence of “Russia collusion”—yet he never produced it. He was censured in 2023 by the House of Representatives for his alarming dishonesty.

Where to start on this exchange? There’s so much good stuff. We’ll begin with her reaction to Schiff's badgering her and saying that she was dodging his questions. She didn’t take too kindly to that:

"You've been attacking my FBI Director, my office, the border czar...'oversight?' You want your 5 MINUTES OF FAME, attacking GOOD people!"

The exchange, albeit with a lot of cross-talk:

BONDI: If you worked for me, you would have been fired. Because you were censured by Congress for lying...

SCHIFF: We can stipulate to, you can stipulate to all your personal attacks on the Democratic members of the committee—

BONDI: Personal attacks? You've been attacking my FBI director, you've been attacking my office, you've been attacking my border czar.

[Crosstalk, hard to understand.]

You want your five minutes of fame, attacking good people.

Remember in January when Shifty badgered her about the DOJ possibly prosecuting Special Prosecutor Jack Smith? Why was he so nervous? Maybe he knew that Smith and his minions were spying on GOP lawmakers.

There was more: Bondi called him a “failed lawyer” and told him, “I think you owe the president an apology.” That won’t happen, but she’s certainly right, considering what Schiff has corruptly put Trump through over the years.

These combative hearings aren’t always particularly productive, and the snappish tone of both parties in the grilling can just turn into a shout fest. That being said, I get particular satisfaction watching Schiff get his hat handed to him by a far more capable thinker. An acting attorney general shouldn’t have to just sit there and take his dishonesty and bullying without pushback.

Bondi simply wasn’t having what he was giving, and he looked like the petulant whiner that he’s become infamous for.
