Trump Finds Novel Way to Keep Key Food Program Going Despite Schumer Shutdown

Trump proposes using tariff revenues to sustain vital food program during government shutdown.

As the Schumer Shutdown barrels toward its second week, the consequences of the Democrats' refusal to fund the federal government are being felt more and more. Flights are being delayed across the country amid an air traffic controller shortage. In Burbank, California, Monday night, the airport went without controllers for nearly six hours, and the traffic was handled by a Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON) facility—in San Diego, 130 miles away.

Great job, Dems.

But the Senate Minority Leader from New York refuses to budge, seemingly unaware that he appears to be holding a losing hand. Instead of urging his colleagues to pass the clean Continuing Resolution (CR) put forth by the Republicans, they’re holding out for unpopular things like restoring funding to the leftist network PBS and paying for healthcare for illegal immigrants.

The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), which serves over six million low-income mothers and young children, could run out of money in just a few weeks. Oh, those caring progressives.

But it’s Donald Trump who actually might have a solution: tariff revenues.

According to a report, the president will redirect funds from tariff revenue to keep the WIC program running.

[A Trump administration official] …described the action as a short-term measure and did not specify how much money was being transferred but said the Office of Management and Budget had developed a "creative solution" to maintain the program.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the move was meant to counter Democrats' cruelty:

Leavitt's tweet continued:

Thankfully, President Trump and the White House have identified a creative solution to transfer resources from Section 232 tariff revenue to this critical program.

The Trump White House will not allow impoverished mothers and their babies to go hungry because of the Democrats' political games.

If this plan goes forward, it will once again leave Dems with egg on their faces. Not only will they be on the record as refusing to fund a program for poor families, but it will be the tariffs they shrieked about so much that could save it for now.

That would be rich, wouldn’t it?

It’s hard not to come away with the thought that we are watching the demise of Chuck Schumer’s seemingly endless career in the Senate. Unfortunately for him, he might be remembered most for this fiasco—which didn’t need to happen and has accomplished nothing. History may be very, very unkind to his obstruction.

Editor’s Note: The Schumer Shutdown is here. Rather than put the American people first, Chuck Schumer and the radical Democrats forced a government shutdown for healthcare for illegals. They own this.
