Louis D. Geri, 41, was arrested by authorities in DC on October 8 after he camped out in a tent on the steps of St. Matthew Cathedral with explosives. When confronted, he told the agents that they’d “better call the federales” because he had explosives.  Turned out that Geri had more than just one explosive – he had hundreds of them. The incident occurred just a few hours before the “Red Mass,” an annual event that marks the beginning of a new Supreme Court term.

Authorities found that Geri had a “large Cache” of handmade explosives, and writings that revealed a serious hatred of Catholics, the Supreme Court, ICE officers and Jews. Two of the Supreme Court Justices are Jewish, and six are Catholic. The Justices were expected to attend the event.

The arrest was made at around 5 AM as police were checking the Cathedral and saw the tent on the steps. The Metropolitan Police bomb squad was notified.

“Sgt. Wishnick convinced him to open the tent, where she allegedly saw him with a butane lighter “clenched” in one hand along with an “unknown white cap-shaped object,” the filing continues.

He allegedly handed her nine pages titled, “Written Negotiations for the Avoidance of Destruction of Property via Detonation of Explosives.”

“You better have these people step away or there’s going to be deaths,” Geri allegedly told her…

Sgt. Wishnick notified other officers in the area as well as MPD command staff, according to the affidavit. The church’s business manager also provided police with a written notice that Geri had previously been barred from the property on Sept. 26.

Geri allegedly got up, walked over to a tree and “appeared to be urinating,” according to the affidavit. Police handcuffed and arrested him there.

Geri had a previous conviction in Arizona for indecent exposure, which landed him in prison for a year.

St. Matthew Cathedral is a historic church, and the site of many events that have included Presidents, Popes, and even Mother Teresa.
