On This Day in 2009...

Reflecting on the Nobel Peace Prize and its implications in today's political landscape.

Normally, I wouldn't write about this, but in light of the fact that 1) ABC really reported this as news today, and 2) Donald Trump just managed to bring at least temporary peace to Gaza, it seems appropriate.

Awarding the Nobel Peace Prize to Barack Obama, who used targeted killings against people ten times as often as George W Bush and reportedly quipped to his aides that he was "really good at killing people, was the ultimate example of how the elite is a self-licking ice cream cone.

Obama has, quite literally, done nothing to earn the prize and proved during his term that he was a chaos agent in world affairs. His administration took the awful foreign policy legacy of George W Bush and worsened it by an order of magnitude. He pushed color revolutions around the world, gifting us the current Ukraine War, the Syrian Civil War, the Libyan disaster, and countless other needless crises. He empowered Iran and gifted Crimea to Putin.

If anything, Obama was worse on foreign policy than domestic policy, and that is a high bar. He earned his spot as the favorite of transnationalists, who have turned Europe into a budding Caliphate.

Trump, on the other hand, gifted the world the Abraham Accords, destroyed ISIS, and kept the Iranians boxed in until Joe Biden eased up on them. Trump had to destroy their nuclear program that Joe Biden helped fund.

Since returning to the office, Trump has been working diligently to resolve global conflicts, negotiating deals that reduce tensions. So far, he has not cracked the Ukraine nut--a war that Joe Biden's weakness in Afghanistan helped reignite, but he is helping bring peace to a war-torn Middle East.

For some reason, Trump seems to want to get the Nobel Prize; perhaps because it is a shiny bauble, or perhaps he is just trolling them. With Trump, it is hard to know sometimes. He likes jokes almost as much as he likes gold.

But you have to admit, ABC bringing the fact up that Obama was awarded the Nobel Prize on this day is rich indeed. Perhaps somebody there has a sense of humor, or is trolling Trump, or they genuinely believe that Obama getting the Nobel is more significant than Trump actually bringing peace to a war-torn world.

Likely the latter, I am afraid. ABC exists in a world where credentials matter much more than accomplishments, so it is entirely plausible that the social media folks at ABC think that Obama's Nobel trumps Trump's real-world success.

: The Schumer Shutdown is here. Rather than put the American people first, Chuck Schumer and the radical Democrats forced a government shutdown for healthcare for illegals. They own this.
