President Trump is sick of the constant griping about the Epstein files, so he directed Congress to release them all. Except of course the Grand Jury files that can’t be released by law.  It’s an about-face from his 2025 summer statement NOT to release them. Why? There’s a good reason:

Democrats hoped to find a smoking gun about Trump. However, there has been none, and Democrats (as well as some Republicans like Thomas Massie and MTG) keep screaming to release them. So, he will release them. His reason for blocking them was because “a lot of innocent people might be hurt.” One of those innocent people very well could be Democrat Hakeem Jeffries.

This is grotesque. In 2013, with Epstein already a convicted predator fresh off his sweetheart deal, Dem fundraisers were shamelessly pitching him on “Brooklyn’s Barack” for cash?

Keep in mind that President Trump is right: the mere mention of Jeffries and Epstein in the same email dirties his name, as it has done with Trump. How many others are there? The constant clamor for the Epstein files may cause far more damage than Democrats think…and the damage could be to Democrats.

And the only way to prevent this political storm from becoming a political disaster is transparency. Whatever the files contain — or don’t contain — the perception of a cover-up is eroding what little public trust remains. And that erosion isn’t limited to this administration; it’s corroding confidence in our government as a whole, which is why it should concern all of us.

We would do well to remember Watergate. It wasn’t the break-in that brought down a presidency — it was the cover-up. That scandal shattered confidence in the Oval Office for a generation and diminished America. The lesson remains painfully relevant today: when leaders hide the truth, the people lose faith — not just in them, but in the very institutions they represent. The Washington Stand
