Man, it seems like democratic socialism – Marxism – is rearing its extremist head everywhere you turn. DSA member Zohran Mamdani won the mayor’s race in New York, his comrade Katie Wilson took the top job in Seattle, and as I reported earlier Monday, community organizer Rae Huang has decided to run against Democrat LA Mayor Karen Bass.

But wait, there’s more!
Now listless House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (NY-8) is facing a primary challenge of his own, and yup, and it’s from another socialist:
New York City Council member Chi Ossé, a democratic socialist, filed paperwork on Monday to challenge House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) next year.
Ossé represents the city’s 36th District, which includes North Crown Heights and Bedford-Stuyvesant, in the New York City Council. He has represented the district since 2021.
Another One Bites the Dust: Now Seattle Has a Democratic Socialist, Mamdani-Like Mayor
He blasted Jeffries’ leadership and ranted about Trump in a statement. And guess who he’s friends with? The mayor-elect of New York City:
What he's saying: "The Democratic Party's leadership is not only failing to effectively fight back against Donald Trump, they have also failed to deliver a vision that we can all believe in," Ossé, who recently joined the Democratic Socialists of America, said in a statement to Axios.
- "These failures are some of the many reasons why I am currently exploring a potential run for New York's 8th Congressional District."
- Ossé, 27, is an ally of New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani and is known as a left wing voice in the New York City council.

Mamdani has not offered his endorsement to Ossé, though, as it's reported that the mayor-elect is looking to build relationships with established party leaders. That being said, Jeffries' support of Mamdani has been notably lukewarm, so I don't know that we're going to see a beautiful friendship evolve soon there.
Ossé looks to be an interesting fella:

I think the new reality shows two things: Democratic socialists are feeling very good about themselves after Mamdani and Wilson’s wins. It also shows much Dems miss their Enforcer “Speaker Emerita” Nancy Pelosi (CA), who announced her retirement earlier this month. Even though I think she is one of the nastiest and most divisive politicians of the modern era, it is also true that she was remarkably effective in keeping her flock in order. With Jeffries as the House minority leader, and his fellow New Yorker Chuck Schumer flailing about in the Senate while launching the nation’s longest-ever government shutdown with nothing positive to come out of it, they are lost in the desert.

They’re desperately turning to something different, and for the moment, it’s democratic socialism. Since socialism has failed virtually everywhere it’s been tried, expect the honeymoon to be short. When the bills come due for all that free stuff and their cities plunge even further into rot, the bloom may come quickly off that rose.
If that turns out not to be the case, however, and more and more of these far-leftists achieve important offices, then I think we’re all in very big trouble.
