California's political landscape heats up with Swalwell's candidacy for governor.

Eric Swalwell has joined the race to become the next Governor of California. 

You can't make this up. What does it say about the state of the Democratic Party that Eric Swalwell, one of the Democrats' "Designated Liars," is going to be a leading candidate for Governor of the largest state in the union?

Democrats could, of course, choose Katie Porter, one of the nastiest Members of Congress, but if anything, she is even more repulsive than Swalwell. Competing with them is Tom Steyer, who, after making billions as an investor, has been dedicating himself to left-wing causes for the past decade. 

It's hard to say which of the alternatives is the worst. Neither Swalwell nor Porter is especially smart, and they are among the sleazier politicians in America, while Steyer is intelligent, but not in a way that marries his native smarts with the ability to grow wise with age. He is a true believer, and true believers are among the most dangerous of politicians because no amount of evidence will dissuade them from pursuing damaging policies. 

Swalwell is running on a platform of making fraud even easier than it is in California. In a state where a large but unknown number of people are neither a citizens nor, in many cases, even legal residents of the country, he wants to make even the simplest ways of ensuring ballot integrity impossible.

Ironically, Swalwell was arguing during Trump's first term that our elections are vulnerable to hacking because that was the thing to do at the time. During Trump's first term, election denial was all the rage among Democrats because they had lost the presidential election and needed to delegitimize Trump. As soon as they were declared the winners of the 2020 election, any questioning of the results was not just conspiracy mongering but part of a plan that would result in an insurrection. 

Voting by phone is an idea so horrible that Californians might just go for it. 

After all, they voted for Gavin Newsom. How much dumber can you get?
