The Schools Teach That Activism Is the Highest Good, and It Is Not Going Well

Exploring the decline of education and rise of activism in schools today.

As the great Kamala Harris once said of high-school and college-age kids, "they are stupid."

Now, to be fair, kids are not stupid. What they are is foolish. Unwise. Inexperienced. And, increasingly, ignorant of the most basic facts of life.

That ignorance is cultivated, not dispelled, in our public schools these days. Back in the 19th century, kids educated in one-room schoolhouses knew how to read and write much better than many kids today, and few people were innumerate. These days, there are vast numbers of kids who enter even elite colleges who have literally never read a book, can't do basic math, and have no idea where the UK or Poland are on a map.

They aren't stupid, or at least most of them are not. There IS a troubling trend in recent years: IQs are actually declining for the first time in history. After decades of increasing IQs (known as the Flynn Effect), IQs are actually reversing, with a measured decline of about 3 points a decade.

That's pretty scary, although probably besides the point of this article. I would argue that it is likely that the dumbing down of how we stimulate kids is part of the problem, and hence education is involved, but I don't have the evidence to back that up.

In any case, what is clear is that our schools are failing badly, and that an increasing number of them, especially in urban areas, focus more on ideological "education" than actual education. Kids learn bogus history, are fed bogus economics, told that the West is systemically evil, and that the world is coming to an end due to capitalism and imperialism.

Where do high school students learn that "nobody is illegal on stolen land?" It's unlikely that it is their parents, and highly likely it is that man in a dress or the Queer teacher who is celebrating Assata Shakur as a freedom fighter.

Many teachers now believe that political consciousness is more important than learning how to read and do math, and will openly say so.

One of the first things Minneapolis did when Renee Good was shot was close the schools for two days and then make in-class attendance optional for a month.

Yes, you read that right. Kids can basically opt out of going to school for a month. Supposedly, they will be doing distance learning (optionally), but COVID showed us how well that works.

One thing the schools ARE doing is busing kids to demonstrations, which is where that video comes from. A high school bused kids to the capitol and the little monsters spent their time there getting into fights.

Well, that and chanting that "nobody is illegal on stolen land."

It's hard to overestimate how politicized the schools are and how teachers are leading the ideological charge. They are no longer about teaching knowledge, or "how to think." It's about what to think, and what to do about injustice.

Kids don't know anything about the world, and they are spoonfed the most insane stuff. And the result is kids cosplaying revolutionaries at the Capitol and...fighting each other.

Great look.

MEANWHILE, in my fair city:

We have "therapy goats." This is what our tax dollars go to.

Therapy goats. I give up. I am paying for lawyers to commune with therapy goats as these people contemplate the tragedy of Venezuelan gang members being deported.

You can't make this up.
