Kid Rock Holds Up a Finger to 'Trolls' Accusing Him of Lip-Syncing at Turning Point Super Bowl Show

Kid Rock defends his live Super Bowl halftime show against lip-syncing claims amid controversy.

The dueling Super Bowl halftime shows — one delivered by Puerto Rican rapper/"trap artist" (no, I don't know what that means) Baddy Bunny at the actual game, and the other put on by Turning Point USA and headlined by Kid Rock — have caused social media to explode and endless commentary in the press.

Many on the Right noted that Bad Bunny’s show was in Spanish, and millions had no idea of what he was actually saying. He also slipped in loaded political commentary, and his original lyrics (not sung at the actual game) were basically pornographic.

Kid Rock has come under fire, too, with voices on the Left ripping his performance and accusing him of lip-syncing. To them, whom he called purveyors of "fake news" and “haters and trolls,” the singer/songwriter held up a certain finger in a video posted Tuesday. He said that technical issues were to blame, and that he did in fact sing live:

His explanation is complicated, and I’m not an audio/video tech — so I frankly didn't fully understand it and won't attempt to explain it — but he did so himself in the above video at length. His conclusion:

And the first thing is, if I was ever going to lip sync, which I wouldn't, that would be the last song [Bawitdaba] I would ever have to bring in the fold to do it, too. We performed this song every night on tour since 1998, since the day it was released.

[..]

[F]or the haters and the trolls out there, that [the sync issues] is exactly what happened.

[…]

No lip syncing here, no tutti frutti.

He also previously told Fox News host Laura Ingraham on Monday evening that he knew something had gone wrong with the sync when he first saw the recording:

I even told them when I saw the rough cut, I was like, 'You guys gotta work on that sync. It's off...

So it was just a syncing issue that they had, and I know they tried to get it right. It was very difficult.

Turning Point contributor Jack Posobiec was there live and backed up Kid Rock's version of events:

Doubtless, this explanation will not convince everyone, especially those on the Left who desperately want to trash the Turning Point effort. In any case, the 55-year-old, whose real name is Robert James Ritchie, is not hiding from the negative attention and is taking it head-on. Meanwhile, his show pulled in an estimated 6.1 million concurrent viewers on YouTube, so a whole lot of people must have liked it.

Turning Point has already announced they'll be doing another halftime show next year, and God knows who the NFL will pick for their extravaganza, so we'll doubtless have plenty of controversy again in February 2027.
