If there is one good thing you could say about Mamdani, other than that he has a dreamy smile, it is that he didn't pull a Spanberger. 

He ran as a socialist and is governing as a socialist/communist. The mistake that people made was assuming that he would only tax the other guy and use that money to give the freebies to his voters.

Well, maybe he is giving away freebies to his voters, assuming, as we should, that a substantial number of his voters are illegal aliens, or as Democrats like to say, future citizens and neighbors.

Mamdani was serious as a heart attack about "decolonization," and the only thing I found mildly surprising about his appearance with AOC is that he didn't break out into Arabic and make a pitch for a transgender uprising or a jihad or something similar. 

Mamdani has been in office for less than two months and his voters are already angry that taxes are going up for everyone, not just “the rich.”

Mamdani's timing of his announcements is perfect. As the middle-class homeowners are reeling from his proposed property tax increases, he jumps in front of the camera to announce that he wants to spend money he doesn't have on people who are not eligible to receive welfare. 

Because that is how he rolls, you know. 

If there is one thing that can split the black community from the Democrats, it is their insistence on putting illegal aliens ahead of ordinary American citizens. 

Radicals have been playing a very long game, building a coalition of the "oppressed," and they believe that this is their moment. But my suspicion is that their moment of victory will turn out to be problematic for them. The inner contradiction of their coalition is that the various groups actually don't like each other much.

Many of the people in the coalition of the oppressed just want more stuff for themselves, and since the pie is very limited, even with fraud and tax increases, Democrats are throwing some under the bus by favoring others. 

And, of course, socialists don't and never had any idea how to run things. They know they hate the way things are, but have a fantastical notion of how things work. Everything they touch turns to ash, and that seems to be happening very fast in New York.

Mamdani embodies the left-wing pirate mentality we have seen develop in Blue cities and states; rather than a rising tide lifting all boats, leftists want to seize the better boats from their owners, toss them over the side, and enjoy the nice boat until it is destroyed from lack of maintenance.

I'm pretty sure that his coalition will fall apart long before his term ends. He dislikes the middle class as much as the ultra-rich. His constituencies are the outsiders, the AWFLs, and the moderately rich, like Cynthia Nixon, who are insensitive to tax increases and who share his ideology and see him as one of them. (He comes from the same class—fairly wealthy and culturally leftist in temperament).

Blacks and working-class Hispanics don't fit into that coalition. Sure, they want a bigger piece of the pie, but they don't see illegal immigrants and Islamics as members of their tribe, and absolutely despise the cultural elite who pretend to be in solidarity with them. 

Still, Mamdani is a hero to the liberals, as much because of that dreamy smile as anything else. They may regret their love affair with him though.
