Fat Gun: Doughboy is a political documentary that follows the bizarre and covert diplomatic mission known only as Operation Doughboy—an alleged effort by U.S. Vice President JD Vance to persuade the government of Iran to express gratitude after the United States bombed several of its nuclear facilities.

Part investigative film, part ode to Tom Cruise, Fat Gun: Doughboy reconstructs the strange chain of events following the controversial U.S. strikes that American officials claimed were precise operations targeting Iran’s nuclear program rather than the nation itself. The film asks the uncomfortable question: If you bomb a country but insist you’re not at war with it… what exactly are you expecting them to say?

Through leaked memos, dramatized reenactments, and interviews with bewildered diplomats, military strategists, and etiquette experts, the documentary chronicles the behind-the-scenes attempt to engineer the world’s most awkward thank-you note. Viewers follow a trail of secret meetings, cultural misunderstandings, and increasingly desperate public-relations tactics as American officials search for the elusive phrase: “We appreciate the bombing.”

At the center of the story is Vice President Vance, portrayed as the unlikely architect of Operation Doughboy—a mission premised on the theory that a well-executed bombing might actually be considered a helpful service if only it were explained properly. As the film unfolds, the line between diplomacy, propaganda, and farce begins to blur.

Fat Gun: Doughboy explores the surreal language of modern geopolitics—where wars are not wars, bombs are acts of peace, and the greatest diplomatic victory might be convincing your adversary to simply say… thanks.
