As we’ve reported, many of our supposed European allies are refusing to step up to the plate and help the U.S. rid the world of one of history’s most evil regimes, Iran, even though they all want that outcome. 

Meanwhile, they all agree that keeping open the crucial waterway, the Strait of Hormuz, where 20 percent of the world’s oil travels through, is crucial, yet they are content to stand idly by as what’s left of the Iranian regime threatens shipping and disrupts the world’s oil supply.

They’re all but too happy to let the United States do the dirty work.

Trump has already made his feelings about their weakness known, but on Tuesday, he let them have it once again in a livid Truth Social post. We don’t need your help, NATO, he wrote:

He pointed out that our allies all agreed on the crucial goal, which is to prevent the Islamic Republic from ever getting a nuclear weapon. If you agree with the goal, why aren’t you helping achieve it?

The United States has been informed by most of our NATO “Allies” that they don’t want to get involved with our Military Operation against the Terrorist Regime of Iran, in the Middle East, this, despite the fact that almost every Country strongly agreed with what we are doing, and that Iran cannot, in any way, shape, or form, be allowed to have a Nuclear Weapon.

Trump has been critical of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the 32-member military alliance, for years, saying that member countries were not paying their fair share and were “taking advantage of the U.S.”  He has pushed allies to pony up more to pay for their defense, and in June 2025, announced that members had agreed to up their spending to five percent of GDP by 2035. He called it a “monumental win” for the U.S.

Now, however, he’s pretty fed up with them once again:

I am not surprised by their action, however, because I always considered NATO, where we spend Hundreds of Billions of Dollars per year protecting these same Countries, to be a one way street — We will protect them, but they will do nothing for us, in particular, in a time of need.

Ouch. Those are some pretty strong words.

Actually, the president continued, we have proven that we don’t need NATO to achieve success:

Fortunately, we have decimated Iran’s Military — Their Navy is gone, their Air Force is gone, their Anti-Aircraft and Radar is gone and perhaps, most importantly, their Leaders, at virtually every level, are gone, never to threaten us, our Middle Eastern Allies, or the World, again! Because of the fact that we have had such Military Success, we no longer “need,” or desire, the NATO Countries’ assistance — WE NEVER DID! Likewise, Japan, Australia, or South Korea. In fact, speaking as President of the United States of America, by far the Most Powerful Country Anywhere in the World, WE DO NOT NEED THE HELP OF ANYONE! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP

NATO has been considered “the most powerful and successful alliance in history” by many analysts, and it's been crucial in maintaining the post WWII world order. Throughout his two non-consecutive terms, though, Trump has shown that the emperor often has no clothes, and the alliance can sometimes look like it’s the U.S. and a bunch of hangers-on.
