iOS 19 and its exciting new design won’t work on all iPhones that run iOS 18

Before Android vendors like Samsung and Google started promoting seven years of software updates for the latest Android handsets, only Apple used to deliver that sort of prolonged support. While Apple never committed to a fixed number of updates, the iPhone would routinely get at least some five releases on top of the software it launched with. But Apple also has to routinely remove older iPhones from the list of supported devices, as new requirements for upcoming iOS releases might be impossible to meet by those older devices. iOS 19, set to be unveiled at WWDC 2025 in a few months, will supposedly remove support from the three oldest iPhone models that can still run iOS 18. That contradicts a report that said all iOS 18 phones will also run iOS 19 this fall. Continue reading... Groundbreaking new EV charging tech adds 250 miles of range in 5 minutes

Electric vehicle charging is finally starting to catch up to the pace of daily life. Huawei just unveiled a new EV megawatt charging system that can add around 250 miles of range in just five minutes—fast enough to make waiting around for a charge feel like a thing of the past. The 1.5 megawatt charger was announced at the China Electric Vehicle 100 Forum and is aimed at something most chargers don’t touch: heavy-duty electric trucks. These are the kind of vehicles that need to get back on the road quickly, and a 15-minute full charge could be a game-changer. According to Huawei, the charger delivers up to 2,400 amps of current and pumps in energy at a rate of 20 kilowatt-hours per minute. That’s not just fast, it’s one of the fastest charging systems we’ve seen. It’s also a big step forward in the slow-moving world of EV megawatt charging. Huawei’s charger isn’t alone in this space. BYD and Zeekr are also racing to bring high-output systems online. BYD’s latest charger clocks in at 1,000 kilowatts and can add over 200 miles of range in about five minutes. Zeekr is planning to launch a 1.2 megawatt charger later this year. The goal is the same across the board: get people (and freight) moving again, fast. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8GhxKyCPx4 One interesting twist is that Huawei showed off a robotic charging arm earlier this year—one that automatically plugs into a car without any human involvement. In a demo, an autonomous car parked itself next to a charger, and the robotic arm did the rest. While that demo used a smaller 600 kW charger, the company says the arm can be mounted on any size station, including this new model that is designed to charge EVs at the megawatt level. Right now, most of these developments are rolling out in China, where electric vehicle infrastructure is expanding quickly. But even if you’re not behind the wheel of an electric semi, this kind of EV megawatt charging tech could trickle down to passenger cars soon enough. Five-minute charging might not be the standard yet, but it’s starting to feel a lot more realistic. iPadOS 18.4 is now available- here are 5 features to try right now

After a boring iPadOS 18.3 update, Apple has finally released iPadOS 18.4 with several important features, including some that should have already been available. Here's everything new with this software update, including new Apple Intelligence features. The most important update coming with iPadOS 18.4 is the all-new Mail experience. However, there are four other features worth noting: All-new Mail experience: After adding this new Mail to iOS 18.2, Apple is introducing new ways for users to manage their inboxes. On-device categorization organizes and sorts incoming emails into Primary for personal and time-sensitive emails, Transactions for confirmations and receipts, Updates for news and social notifications, and Promotions for marketing emails and coupons. Mail also features a new digest view that pulls together all of the relevant emails from a business, allowing users to quickly scan for what’s important at the moment. New Apple Intelligence languages: Apple adds Chinese, French, German, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and localized English for Singapore and India. Image Playground: The long-awaited Sketch style is now available alongside the Animation and Illustration options. New emoji: Apple finally added the seven emojis teased by the Unicode Consortium last year. Still, they’re not as fun as you’d expect. AirPods Max lossless support: If you own the USB-C AirPods Max, you can enjoy lossless audio by plugging a USB-C cable from your headphones to your USB-C iPad. iPadOS 18.4 also adds the following features and tweaks: Genmoji: Apple tweaked the Genmoji icon on the keyboard, as it now reads “Genmoji.” Apple News+ Food: This update will bring a new Food section to Apple News. Subscribers can access recipes, tips for healthy eating, restaurants, and more. Ambient music: iPadOS 18.4 adds new Control Center toggles for Ambient Music, including Chill, Productivity, Sleep, and Wellbeing. Apple Maps change: You can now set a Preferred Language to get directions instead of the one you use on your iPad. Alongside this new software update, Apple also released iOS 18.4, macOS 15.4, watchOS 11.4, tvOS 18.4, and visionOS 2.4.
