Seeing SteamOS run on a ROG Ally has me worried about the Steam Deck

A YouTuber has demonstrated what a real version of SteamOS looks and plays like on their Asus ROG Ally, and it works surprisingly well. There are, however, some quirks that are holding back performance, and TDP settings are inaccessible, which is expected to be fixed when SteamOS officially rolls out to more devices. The Steam Deck is still the best handheld gaming PC, in large part due to SteamOS. Valve rolling out its secret weapon to more powerful gaming handhelds is a bold move, but it also goes to show just how far behind all other operating systems are when the competition is happily abandoning ship and allowing for SteamOS to be downloaded. Bold and brutal, if you haven’t played The Outlast Trials yet, now is the time

When it arrived back in 2014, Outlast felt raw and nasty, a horror game with a distinctive aesthetic and a fantastic gimmick. The game doesn’t make you, but armed with a handheld camera, you feel responsible for documenting the terrors of Mount Massive - as well as staying alive, there’s this implicit pressure to capture every monstrous twist. Though it’s extremely different in terms of structure, The Outlast Trials, which even after 53,000 player reviews boasts a ‘very positive’ rating on Steam, is true to the original’s visual style. Now, just over a year since its 1.0 launch, the new Outlast Trials update makes it a more tempting proposition. You can actually smell this AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT with a built-in air freshener

Worried that your gaming space isn’t smelling as heavenly as you’d like? This scented AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT from Yeston might be the answer. You can mask the stench of defeat (or victory) and instead enjoy a “fragrance experience” that will boost your mood while the 9070 XT works to boost frame rates during those hard-fought gaming sessions. AMD has stormed to a surprising lead with the RX 9070 XT, which is now the best graphics card for most gamers to buy. It’s a GPU that gets the balance right between performance and cost, but don’t expect to smell roses from every graphics card out there, as GPU air fresheners are unlikely to be a gaming fad that enters into the mainstream. Nacon’s new gaming mic has some surprisingly good specs and features, costs $130

Nacon just revealed its brand new microphone for gamers and content creators, the RIG M2 Streamstar. Also known as the M2 HD Pro, this microphone is the first USB mic to also have a built-in Bluetooth audio gateway, meaning you can connect your headset or earbuds directly to the mic for low-latency audio monitoring. On paper, Nacon has put together one of the best gaming microphones, not only with the new feature, but also in part thanks to its 24-bit depth and 192kHz sampling rate, which it claims results in studio quality output. InZOI’s director doesn’t think it’s “anywhere near comparable” to The Sims yet

New life sim InZOI is about to launch into early access, and comparisons to The Sims are inevitable. The EA behemoth remains by far the dominant presence in the genre, and InZOI game director Hyungjun ‘Kjun’ Kim regularly cites the series as a central inspiration. As its release date finally rounds the corner, I spoke to Kjun about how he feels being positioned alongside the games that he’s loved for so long, how InZOI hopes to stand out, and whether the absence of a Sims 5 feels like an advantage or a challenge.
