The upcoming movie stars Liam Neeson as Lt. Frank Drebin Jr., the son of Leslie Nielsen’s Lt. Frank Drebin who is equally unaware of his absurd actions. The plot is murky at best—the logline is merely, “Only one man has the particular set of skills… to lead Police Squad and save the world!” But who needs a plot, really? The real question is whether the movie will get the right balance of humor, though some scenes from the trailer released today (“Please, take a chair!”) suggest it might get there.   Neeson is joined on the screen by Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, CCH Pounder, Kevin Durand, Cody Rhodes, Liza Koshy, Eddie Yu, and Danny Huston. The movie comes from Saturday Night Live writer and director Akiva Schaffer, who serves as director and also co-writer with Dan Gregor and Doug Mand. Schaffer’s other credits include directing episodes of I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson and 2022’s Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers. It’s produced by Seth MacFarlane (The Family Guy, Ted, The Orville). The Naked Gun premieres in theaters on August 1, 2025.
