Chad Stahelski’s reboot of Highlander is moving forward with some interesting casting news. Today, Collider reported that Russell Crowe (Gladiator, Thor: Love and Thunder, pictured above in 2024’s The Exorcism) will star in a “key role” opposite Henry Cavill.
What that key role is, remains unknown, but I’d bet a longsword that Crowe will be another immortal, though whether he’ll play a villain or a friend to Cavill’s Connor McLeod remains unknown.
Stahelski’s Highlander feature, a reboot of the 1986 film starring Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery, and Clancey Brown, is set to be the beginning of a new, burgeoning franchise. Stahelski is overseeing all things Highlander, as well as all things John Wick, for Lionsgate.
In a previous interview with Collider, Stahelski explained his take on the story: “We’re bringing it forward from the early 1500s in the Highlands to the beyond present-day New York and Hong Kong. There’s big opportunity for action… and it’s a bit of a love story—but not how you think.”
Could that love story be between Cavill and Crowe? I mean, I’m not not interested in that…
Production on Highlander is set to begin this fall, meaning we likely won’t see the movie in theaters until late 2026 or early 2027.[end-mark]
