The Week In Rock: June 14th – June 21st
Here’s what happened during the week…
Nancy Wilson
6/14 Heart’s Nancy Wilson Slams Unauthorized Use Of “Barracuda”
The Heart guitarist takes issue with the Trump administration for playing an instrumental version of the band’s song “Barracuda” at a military parade in Washington, D.C. to celebrate the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary.
“As daughters of a U.S. Marine Corps major, we hold a deep and abiding respect for the men and women who serve in our Armed Forces,” states Nancy. “On a day meant to honor that service, it’s important that music used in such settings reflects not only the tone of the event but also the wishes of the artists who created it.”
Attendance at Trump’s parade, held on the president’s 79th birthday, was reportedly dwarfed by the millions who showed up at roughly 2,000 anti-Trump protests held all over the U.S.
The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus
6/15 Trump Supporters “Not Allowed”
The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus singer Ronnie Winter takes to Instagram to tell Donald Trump supporters, “You are not allowed to come to my shows.”
“I actually follow what Jesus says. If you’re a Christian… and you voted for Donald Trump, shame on you.” writes Winter in his post.
Steve Perry
6/15 Steve Perry Auction For Fire Relief
The former Journey singer raises $215.00 for Altadena fire victims following the devastating Los Angeles wildfires earlier this year.
Perry auctions over 50 items from his personal archive, including the handwritten lyrics to “Don’t Stop Believin’,” which went for $43,500.
The Offspring
6/17 The Offspring Are On Kimmel
The Offspring are on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” They perform: “Come Out And Play” (the only track televised),”You’re Gonna Go Far, Kid”, “The Kids Aren’t Alright” and “Lookin’ Out For #1.” The Offspring will launch the North American leg of its “Supercharged Worldwide In ’25” tour in July.
Marilyn Manson
6/18 A Call To Cancel Marilyn Manson Concert
A council leader, Millie Earl, says Marilyn Manson’s Dorset, England gig should be cancelled to “reinforce the message that violence against women and girls isn’t something that’s acceptable in our community.”
Manson has repeatedly denied the accusations made by several women and dismissed them as “falsehoods”.
.
Daniel Williams
6/18 Cause Of Plane Crash Determined
The National Transportation Safety Board issues a finding that the Cessna 550 (business jet) carrying former Devil Wear Prada drummer Daniel Williams and talent agent Dave Shapiro was too low on its descent path to San Deigo for more than a mile before clipping power lines 95 feet above the ground on May 22nd. All aboard, including Williams and Shapiro were killed in the crash.
Dolly Parton
6/19 Mötley Crüe/Dolly Parton Charity Single
“‘Home Sweet Home’ was first released in 1985 as a single from our ‘Theatre Of Pain’ album,” writes Mötley Crüe in a statement. “That we were able to unite with Dolly to raise awareness for homeless youth and the amazing work of Covenant House, which provides them safe housing and care, makes it even more special.”
“It was an honor and a joy working in the studio on Mötley Crüe’s 40th Anniversary re-release of ‘Home Sweet Home’,” added Parton.
The song will be included in Mötley Crüe’s career-spanning compilation, “From The Beginning,” due September 12th.
Previously, Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx and guitarist John 5 played on “Bygones,” a song from Parton’s “Rockstar” album.
Linkin Park
6/20 A “Medical Issue” Cancels Linkin Park Show
Linkin Park is forced to cancel its scheduled concert at the Bernexpo in Bern, Switzerland due to “a medical issue in the band.”
There is no information regarding which band member is dealing with the “medical issue.”
