The instructions say you should wash your turkey and let it rest, right? These gobblers are just prepping themselves early. As with many animals, turkeys will get what they need when they need it. This group needed a drink of water. Apparently, living in Madison, Wisconsin, means you share the city with an overabundance of wild turkeys. That isn’t entirely bad, as the turkeys have adapted quite well to urban life and don’t bother people much. Although we have had (tongue-in-cheek) reports of wild turkeys rampaging through some towns, that doesn’t seem to be a problem in Madison. Image from TikTok. Wisconsin had no wild turkeys in the 1970s. The state Department of Natural Resources (DNR) released some in the southern part of the state. The birds have been extraordinarily fertile. There are good populations throughout the state, and there are organized hunts to cull the flocks. Population numbers are stable, and the birds are healthy. While that doesn’t help the homeowner, it isn’t horrible news either. Once the cats overcome their fear of the size, they may discover a skill in hunting the big birds.
