Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has responded to the United States’ attack on three Iranian nuclear sites on Saturday night. In a video released on X, Netanyahu praised President Trump’s decision to bomb Iran. He also noted that the United States did what no other nation on earth could’ve done. The Times of Israel had more details to add: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised American strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities early Sunday morning, thanking US President Donald Trump for bringing “peace through strength.” “President Trump and I often say peace through strength. First comes strength, then comes peace. And tonight, President Trump and the United States acted with a lot of strength,” he said in an English-language statement. The premier called the US “truly unsurpassed” in its strikes on Iran, adding that Trump’s “leadership today has created a pivot of history that can help lead the Middle East and beyond to a future of prosperity and peace.” “President Trump, I thank you. The people of Israel thank you. The forces of civilization thank you,” he continued. Trump announced early Sunday that the US military bombed Iran’s Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan nuclear sites. He said the strikes aimed only to stop Iran’s uranium enrichment activities, adding, “Now is the time for peace.” Netanyahu hours later posted a Hebrew-language statement saying the US operation was conducted in “full coordination” with the IDF. The president announced Thursday night he would make his decision within two weeks pending a potential diplomatic breakthrough with Tehran. The announcement reportedly frustrated Israeli officials, who had believed American intervention in the war was imminent. Abbas Araqchi said Trump had “betrayed” Americans who had been promised an end to US involvement in Middle East wars. Araqchi told a news conference: “It is an outrageous, grave and unprecedented violation of the fundamental principles of the Charter of the United Nations and international law.” BBC security correspondent Frank Gardner says Iran must now choose between three strategic courses of action in response to the US attack overnight: Do nothing. This could spare it from further US attacks. It could even choose the diplomatic route and re-join negotiations with the US. But doing nothing makes the Iranian regime look weak, especially after all its warnings of dire repercussions if the US did attack. It may decide the risk of weakening its grip on its population outweighs the cost of further US attacks Retaliate hard and fast. Iran still has a substantial arsenal of ballistic missiles after manufacturing and hiding these away for years. It has a target list of around 20 US bases to choose from in the broader Middle East. It could also launch “swarm attacks” on US Navy warships using drones and fast torpedo boats Retaliate later at a time of its own choosing. This would mean waiting until the current tension has subsided and launching a surprise attack when US bases were no longer on maximum alert Within the hours of the US bombing, Iran launched a fresh wave of missiles towards Israel.
