Jenna Paulette Teams Up With Ashley McBryde To Honor The Men Who Shaped Them – “The Prophet (Grandaddy’s Song)”

A song honoring the men shaped these women. Jenna Paulette is revisiting one of her more meaningful songs from her last record, Horseback. The Texas native is teaming up with fellow cowboy enthusiast Ashley McBryde for a reimagined version of “The Prophet (Grandaddy’s Song),” and holy smokes, this tune is a showstopper. View this post on Instagram A post shared by JENNA PAULETTE COUNTRY MUSIC COWGIRL (@jennapaulette) I was already a fan of “The Prophet (Grandaddy’s Song)” when Jenna Paulette released it last year. The track perfectly pays homage to the ranching way of life Jenna grew up living, and still lives. Although she’s a country star now, she is similar to Colter Wall in the sense that she works her touring schedule around the seasons when she can step away from the ranch. You’ll find her on horseback working cattle when she’s not on the stage. “This song was sent to me by the A&R from my label, and was written by Ashley McBryde, Matraca Berg and Lori McKenna. When it was sent to me, I asked ‘do you think they would mind if I put my grandad into these lyrics?” I thought, I just want to put him all the way in it, and I want my daughter, who is 7 months old, to be able to know my grandaddy because of this song. And they said yes, very graciously. So I put it on my record that came out a month before she was born, and Ashley McBryde actually said yes to putting out a duet version including her own lyrics to this song.” And if you’re not familiar with Jenna Paulette’s game, she was asked to make her Grand Ole Opry debut while working calves on her Texas ranch. Yeah, she’s the real deal. To revisit this special song, Paulette wanted to include someone who understands and appreciates the cowboy way of life. And who better than the “Ain’t Enough Cowboy Songs” singer, Ashley McBryde? Ahead of the single’s release, Jenna Paulette shared the Instagram message she sent to Ashley, asking if she would be willing to sing a verse. “Ashley! So excited for you this week and celebrating with you! Me and this sweet baby girl will be watching. I wanted to float an idea by you for next year…I’m going to be doing a collaboration project that will come out late summer, and was thinking about pulling ‘The Prophet’ over to it. It’s such a special song, and I would love to do a combination of your version and mine if we’re together, if you’re interested. There will be some sort of giving back aspect with this project, supporting ranchers and keeping ranches generational. The theme of ‘The Prophet’ serves that idea so well, so it’s the only song from my album we’ll be bringing over. Let me know what you think!” Ashley messaged Jenna back, saying that she was all in. McBryde is actually an original songwriter on the tune, penning it alongside Lori McKenna and Matraca Berg. Jenna Paulette shared that when she received the song from her label, she knew it was a good fit for her, but she wanted to intertwine some of her own words into the preexisting lyrics to pay homage to her grandfather, with whom she grew up checking cattle. The songwriters said yes. In this secondary version of the song, the lyrics remain the same for the most part, with a few words changed here and there to reflect characteristics of Jenna Paulette’s and Ashley McBryde’s lyrics, combining the original version’s lyrics with the released version’s lyrics. The song will make you choke up regardless of who you were brought up, because every little girl thinks their fathers hung the moon, and this song depicts those men doing their best to provide for their families, keeping traditions alive, and loving the little blessings that come their way. “He said pray for rain ’cause the weather man lies Old men will clear their throat before they cry Love your horses, mend your fences Keep your common sense and know the difference Between your heart and your head He hung the moon and I hung on every word he ever said…” Vocally, this song will leave you in awe as their voices pair flawlessly together. If you’re a fan of “Ain’t Enough Cowboy Songs,” you need to listen to “The Prophet (Grandaddy’s Song)” immediately. Turn it up.
