Petra Fannin is an incredible artist who uses the name Zamber Lamber for her art pseudonym. When her beloved grandfather passed away at the end of April, she wanted to do something in his memory. Incorporating a feature of her grandmother’s house, she designed and created a unique family tree painting. @zamber_lamber I’ll keep posting updates on the mural as I go. I’m hoping to finish it before or shortly after the funeral. Little bit of background my grandpas family has Mexican AND Native American heritage. He speaks both Spanish and English but also grew up with native culture but he didn’t live on reservation but his brother did (he sadly has passed away). Him and all his siblings have an assigned spirit animal. My grandpas animal is an Owl and the way he explains it to me is that owls have always watched over him. One year, as teens, the grandkids began recording their heights on the wall. The family kept up the tradition. Rather than a traditional notation of who begat whom, Petra’s family tree incorporates the recorded heights of children and grandchildren. With the plan in place, Petra began by applying a solid color to the wall, leaving each notation unpainted. Then she added the tree trunk and branches to incorporate the “leaves.” Her grandfather’s spirit animal is the owl, so she added an owl to the family tree painting. When her Grandma’s cat passed away, Petra decided the family tree needed another addition.
