The story of Jethro Tull begins in the seaside town of Blackpool, Lancashire, where grammar school classmates Ian Anderson, Jeffrey Hammond, and John Evan first forged a musical bond. Anderson, a Scottish transplant who had taught himself the Spanish guitar, and Evan, a drummer inspired by the Beatles, formed the nucleus of what would become a six-piece “blue-eyed soul” group known as the John Evan Band.
